THE SHAWNEE MURALS

 The mural in Shawnee has two sides. This first side is over two stories tall. it greets travelers on the highway that bypasses the town. The scene was inspired by a poem a teen in Shawnee wrote. In the poem he discribed what "outsiders' think of Shawnee.

 Artist Geoff Schenkel worked with the youth in Shawnee to design and paint the mural. It started during a summer youth program .

 The mural became a truely collaborative effort. Kids of all ages worked on the project. As they worked the mural changed and grew.
