Program Acquisition
[ Primary Contact:
Media Distribution Supervisor]

The WOUB Center for Public Media can assist in the purchase, borrowing, or rental of programs for classroom use from colleagues, other universities and professional organizations.

1. Program purchase requests should be planned in advance. Sometimes two weeks is sufficient notice to secure a program. In other cases, one month or longer is required. Catalogs and sources are available in the Media Distribution Center, RTVC Building, Room 297.

2. The Center has a small budget for the rental and purchase of programs for long-term use by departments. Shared payments for programs is also an option. Contact the Media Distribution Supervisor to discuss these options.

3. Copyright guidelines for broadcast programs have been liberalized by Congress. Below is a synopsis of the current rules:

A broadcast by any station may be recorded and retained by a non-profit educational institute for a period of 45 days. The recordings may be used once by teachers in the course of relevant teaching activity and repeated only once for institutional reinforcement during the first ten (10) days after recording.

4. The Media Distribution Center can secure permanent use rights for programs.

Telecommunications Equipment
[Primary Contact:
Intercampus Technical Supervisor]

1. If a department is contemplating the purchase of television equipment, the WOUB Center for Public Media can be contacted for advice on appropriate purchases.

2. Many departments within the University have purchased their own television equipment. The Telecommunications Center repairs departmental equipment for the cost of the replacement parts. Departments are encouraged to practice preventative maintenance of their equipment. Periodic examinations and cleaning can prolong equipment life.

Program Scheduling and Distribution
[Primary Contact:
Media Distribution Supervisor]

1. Many buildings on campus are wired for closed circuit televisions; however, not all rooms in these buildings have CCTV outlets or television sets.

2. The Media Distribution Supervisor can be contacted to schedule a program feed. To ensure classroom reception of programs, they must be scheduled no later than 4 PM one week prior to your program date. When a program feed is scheduled, it is the responsibility of the faculty/staff member making the request to check on room and television set availability.

Original Productions

1. A complete camera production unit is available to produce programs for instructional use. This highly mobile unit provides the freedom to reach previously inaccessible remote areas at a comparatively small cost.

2. Studio D, a TV studio equipped with three color cameras, tape and audio facilities, is ideal for recording guest speakers or role-playing sessions. This studio must be scheduled one week prior to use. Some specific uses may require more than one week's notice.

3. Professional audio and video production studios are available for instructional use. These highly sophisticated studios are used only for programs that have long-term instructional value. Broadcast quality programs produced in these studios require MONTHS of planning and execution.
