Requires 14.4 connection

This week:
Sustainability. The excesses of the boom and bust period in Appalachian
history are directly responsible for one of the newest movements -- sustainability.
Worker-owned networks, small businesses, micro-enterprises -- these are the most
recent trends in the region. Producer Sandra Sleight-Brennan looks at the work
that local non-profit groups are doing with eco-forestry, ACEnet’s
work in trying to create markets for local business people, and talks to local
residents themselves about their views for the future of these new economic concepts.
Countdown
to Millennium is an oral history and public radio project, based on a library
of interviews, keeping our stories alive to pass down to others into the 21st Century.
Each Wednesday, we will present a new RealAudio feature from the series. You can also
hear each week's features on Ohio University Public Radio Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.
during Morning Edition and at 4:10 p.m. on Afternoon Edition.
